§ 20-97. Sprinkler systems.

  • (a)

    Connections outside town. All persons outside the town limits who shall desire sprinkler systems connected to the water system of the town shall pay the town applicable charges in accordance with the rates and fees schedule.

    (b)

    Plans and specifications. No sprinkler or other fire system will be connected to the town water system unless and until adequate plans for the system have been submitted to and approved by the superintendent of the water system, and the final tap on the connection will not be made until the entire installation has been inspected and approved by the superintendent. All such installations shall be in accordance with the specifications and requirements of the superintendent and shall include not less than one (1) Fire Underwriters approved check valve at a location to be designated by the superintendent.

    (c)

    Inspections. Subject to constitutional limitations, the superintendent of the water and sewerage department, during daylight hours of any day other than Sundays or legal holidays, shall have the full right and authority to enter upon the premises of the person obtaining a sprinkler or other fire system for the purpose of inspecting the connections of such systems.

    (d)

    Water to be used for fire protection only. No water supplied for sprinkler systems, passing through the required connections, shall be used for any purpose other than fire protection. No connections other than those required for firefighting purposes will be permitted on any fire system.

    (e)

    Penalties for violations. Upon the failure of any person to comply with any of the provisions of this section, the town may, after ten (10) days' written notice, disconnect the premises of such person from the water system of the town. If the premises of any water customer is disconnected for violation of any of the provisions of this section, the town will not reconnect such premises until an approved detector-type check valve and meter has been installed on the fire service portion of the customer's water system at the property owner's sole expense. In such cases the restoration of services may be made as soon as the customer involved has deposited with the town sufficient funds to cover the estimated cost of the installation of an approved detector-type check valve and meter.
